Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry has been a part of the Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar Medical College & Hospital since its inception. Initially established in 1981 at Cooke Town, Bangalore; the college shifted to its own campus in May 1987. The psychiatry department functions on the lines of a General Hospital Psychiatry unit (GHPU). It gets referrals from almost all clinical departments in the hospital for consultation and liaison. The department provides comprehensive care for all psychiatric disorders for all age groups across the life span, including special populations like children, adolescents, women and people in old age. It also imparts training in Psychiatry to undergraduates, interns and post-graduates of other departments. With a psychologist working jointly with Dept. of Paediatrics, the Dept. is also able to provide psychological assessment for adults, adolescents and children.
The Department of Psychiatry in BRAMCH is committed to provide exemplary clinical care, consultation services and treatment, both to inpatients and outpatients, along with crisis and emergency services. We can offer integrated, comprehensive psychiatric services that enable individuals to change their lives.
The provision of comprehensive psychiatric care with integrated bio psychosocial approach provides the foundation for the training of the medical students, interns and postgraduates in the discipline of Psychiatry.
